Replacing vs. Repairing Gutters

Scheduling routine gutter cleanings will prevent your gutters from clogging, but when is it time to replace your gutter system?  Keeping your gutters working properly is essential in keeping water away from your home and sometimes having them cleaned just isn’t enough.  This weekend, take time to look at your gutters for signs of wear and tear:

  • Inspect your system for areas that may be sagging or split.
  • To the extent that you can see your gutters out of your home’s windows, check for standing water.  Standing water is a sign that your gutters may be “off pitch” or have lost their angle.
  • Make sure your downspouts are properly attached and extend away from your home’s foundation.
  • When it is raining, observe your gutters to make sure they are functioning properly.  Check to make sure water is flowing smoothly out of the downspouts.  Pay close attention to the location of leaks as well as to whether or not water is spilling over the gutter’s sidewall.

Locate where water is running off your roof to see if additional gutters are needed where they may not already be installed.

If you encounter splits, holes, or the improper draining of water, then it is time to have your gutters replaced.  The best part is that we are here to help!
