Tis the season for snow and freezing ice! Now that the last present has been wrapped and all the ornaments have all been hung, it’s time to turn your attention to your gutters. We all dream of a white Christmas, but unpredictable Northeast weather often melts our beloved holiday snow, exposing your home and gutters to ice damming.
Ice damming can occur when temperature differential (inside to outside) and improper ventilation or insulation causes snow on your home’s roof to melt. The melted snow trickles down to the roof edge, where it collects and freezes into a slab of ice. As more and more snow melts, the trapped runoff accumulates behind the ice mass. Eventually enough water has accumulated that it pushes up and underneath your home’s shingles. The end result is winter roof leaks and interior damage.
Ice damming is not 100% preventable and it can occur even if your gutters are spotless. If you unfortunately receive the gift of ice in your gutters this year, call Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning® immediately. Our professionals are trained in ice damming removal and can easily restore your gutter system to proper condition.
This December get your gutters ready and remember to keep warm! From all of us here at Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning®, we wish you and your family a very merry Holiday Season!
