Why Clean Your Gutters?

Regular Gutter Cleaning Protects Your Home From Water Damage

Every rainstorm puts your gutter system to the test. In fact, a typical home sheds over 1,000+ gallons of water for every single inch of rainfall, creating the potential for structural damage if not properly channeled away from your property.

Unmanaged water can cause:

  • Water damage to your home foundation can cost thousands of dollars
  • Create standing water zones that dramatically increase basement moisture and mold risks
  • Weaken your home’s structural integrity through persistent water exposure

The Weight of Neglect

Clogged gutters aren’t just an aesthetic problem—they’re a structural hazard. Accumulated debris and trapped water can weigh up to 370 pounds. Repairing these damages can cost thousands of dollars. Over time, the excessive stress on your gutter system leads to:

  • Severe gutter sagging and warping
  • Damage to your home’s siding and roof edges
  • Accelerated material deterioration
  • Increased vulnerability to pest infestations
  • Potential failure of the entire gutter system

The cost of reactive repairs far exceeds the investment in professional, preventative gutter maintenance. By choosing Ned Stevens for professional gutter cleaning services, you will protect your home’s long-term value and structural health. In instances where gutters are beyond repair, we also install brand new aluminum gutter systems.

When to Clean Your Gutters?

March

Gutters with heavy ice and winter debris require cleaning to properly channel water from the incoming April showers.

June

In late spring, oak tassels, seed pods, ragweed, and other foliage will fall. This debris is like a sponge that clogs gutters when summer thunderstorms hit.

August

Summer storms cause large, heavy debris from trees to fall. This build-up will clog and warp your gutters causing damage to your home.

FALL

Fall causes the heaviest volume of debris. This will start in early Oct and continue steadily until Jan. 2-3 cleanings are recommended for 100% peace of mind.

Unlike Other Companies, We Offer Free Gutter Inspections

Our services include a complimentary inspection. Unlike other gutter cleaning companies, our technicians take the time to look for issues that might have gone unnoticed for years. If they discover a problem, they will check a box on your door hanger to inform you and then upload the details to our office in real-time. Simply give us a call to discuss their findings. We will also send an email with the findings!

We Offer Gutter Cleaning Solutions in the Biggest Cities and Suburbs Across the Nation

Founded in 1965 by Ned Stevens himself—who, at the time, was a local milkman—Ned Stevens has grown from a neighborly service to one of the country’s most trusted gutter cleaning companies.

Our team provides gutter cleaning and gutter repair services for homeowners in the largest cities and suburbs across the United States, including Newark, Jersey City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Havertown, Chicago, Nashville, Alexandria, Charlotte, and Toms River.

Our Professionals Perform Wet or Dry Gutter Cleaning Services

As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, our technicians have been trained to use a combination of hand work, blower work, and water when completing gutter cleaning services for your home. We bring our own hoses and equipment.

If your outside water is on, we will use it. If not, our technicians will decide whether or not your gutter system will equally benefit from a dry cleaning – as long as we can guarantee the best work can be completed. If your water is off and our team determines it is necessary to perform your service, we will either contact you or return another day.

We Will Use Bags and Leaf Blowers to Collect Debris

Our team of licensed gutter cleaners respect your time and space, collecting and disposing of the debris that comes out of your gutters. Since local ordinances vary, we may not be able to bag your debris.

If we do not bag it, we will use leaf blowers to gather the debris and blend it into other debris in your yard. If we do bag the debris, we will leave it curbside for you to dispose of. If you would like us to dispose of the bags, please notify us as soon as possible. Disposal fee may apply.

Common Gutter Issues We Service

At Ned Stevens, our experienced team understands the unique challenges posed by your local weather and will ensure your gutters are ready to handle whatever Mother Nature throws their way.

We’re trained to identify and correct the most common gutter issues, including:

Pitch Problems

The effectiveness of your gutter system relies on precise angling. When gutters lose their optimal pitch, water cannot efficiently flow away from your home, creating potential water damage risks. Our experts can diagnose and restore the critical slope that ensures proper water drainage.

Structural Integrity

We frequently encounter loose gutters that have separated from the fascia board. In addition, we often discover cracks or significant denting on properties. This damage can negatively compromise the fundamental function of your system.

Critical Connection Points

Some of the most vulnerable areas in a gutter system include:

  • Leaking gutter miter corners that require professional replacement
  • Damaged gutter downspouts that disrupt water flow
  • Seam vulnerabilities (in non-seamless gutter systems)

Why These Issues Matter

Each of these problems represents more than a minor, cosmetic inconvenience. If not addressed, they can:

  • Compromise your home’s foundation
  • Lead to costly water damage
  • Reduce the lifespan of your gutter system
  • Create potential entry points for water and pests

How We Keep Our Licensed Gutter Cleaners Safe

At Ned Stevens, we hold the distinction of being the only gutter cleaning company in our industry to use a patented and approved safety system.

Our technicians receive ongoing safety training multiple times a year, both in the field and in a classroom setting, each required to pass a safety test before being permitted to work. While on the road, our crews also receive unannounced safety spot checks performed by dedicated Safety Managers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes—our work is fully insured and 100% guaranteed. Since debris falls with every passing storm, we guarantee that your gutters will be free of clogs through the next rainfall. All our field technicians are our employees, not independent contractors, and all our employees are fully covered by worker’s compensation and liability insurance.
No—we make your life easy! After you schedule your job, we will appear automatically without further notice for each gutter cleaning service scheduled, do a great job, and leave a receipt for you at your door. It’s that easy!
Yes, we guarantee every gutter cleaning we perform. Gutters can clog at any time due to the volume of debris that falls each day and the minimal amount needed to clog them. However, we guarantee that your entire system will be cleaned and flow freely through the next rainstorm following your service. From traditional gutter systems to advanced, seamless gutters, we have the knowledge and experience to tackle gutter challenges of all kinds.
You may notice that areas of your gutters overflow when it rains or that your downspouts simply aren’t draining any water. An easy rule of thumb is that if your gutters haven’t been cleaned in the last 4-6 months, chances are it’s time for another cleaning. Most of our customers do require multiple cleanings during inclement weather or in the autumn.
Typically, two technicians will come to your home to perform your service. All information is gathered prior to your gutter cleaning.
Gutters built into an awning, or “awning gutters”, are very difficult to clean because the openings in them are typically too small to get our hands inside them. The location and strength of the gutters can also present a safety concern in some homes. If you have awning gutters on your home, we cannot guarantee that they will be cleaned and properly functioning after our service. But, we always do our best to get these cleaned as well.
Although rare, there are times we arrive at a home and cannot perform the service. Whether the issue is that the job is too dangerous to perform safely, or the price quoted was incorrect, or some other unforeseen issue, we may be forced to cancel the service. In that case, we will notify you that the job could not be performed and you will not be charged for the visit.

Properly pitched gutters and leaders gather that water and channel it away from the home. Doing so prevents water penetration into the home and its foundation. For this reason, Consumer Reports magazine claims that “runaway rainwater” is the “#1 Home Repair That You Should Not Ignore.”

Due to how important a properly flowing gutter system is to your home, you must keep them clean all year round. If you don’t, rainwater can seep into your home’s roof, siding, and even its foundation. Water damage to these parts of your home can result in costly repairs. Simply cleaning your gutters prevents these expensive projects and keeps water flowing away from your home.

Yes—under certain circumstances, including lack of available water and customer requests, we will perform a “dry cleaning.” We will only perform a dry cleaning where we can ensure that the gutters and leaders are free from clogs. If we perform a “dry cleaning”, the service carries the same guarantee as cleaning with water.

We do not recommend screening or gutter guards. Ned Stevens has searched for and experimented with all types of products that claim to prevent gutter clogs for nearly 60 years. In short, we’ve found that there’s no such thing as a “no clog” gutter.

The solution for gutter clogs is simple: clean the gutters on a regular schedule. You can do this by signing up for one of our ongoing gutter cleaning service plans, and you won’t worry about your gutters again.

No. We clean your entire system that is above ground. We are not responsible for any clogs that occur in drains that are below ground. However, we do offer a separate underground drain snaking service that we would recommend if we found any clogs in our inspection.
In 1965, Ned Stevens was a milkman, making deliveries to his valued customers. Ned found that customers routinely asked him for help with home services—and so, in 1965, Ned started a home service business! Today we offer many services that protect both your home and the people who live there—but we have never stopped being a family.

We recommend that you clean your gutters about 6 times per year. Your local weather and proximity to trees & debris will dictate your specific needs, but we typically suggest this recommended schedule:

  • In March — to re-nail all gutters and clear out the branches, dirt, and other winter debris—so that they are ready for the “April Showers.”
  • In June — to clean out all the oak tassels, ragweed, seed pods, “helicopters”, and other debris that land all over our properties.
  • In August — to remove wind-blown debris caused by summer thunderstorms.
  • And then three times in the Fall — to remove all the clogs caused by leaves that come down throughout the fall season, before the winter freeze

Our Service Plans provide the simplest solution for worry-free gutter maintenance, all year long, and come with free benefits!

It’s great you have clean gutters that allow rainwater to flow without causing damage to your home—but the debris will be back. As such, if you have not done so already, consider enrolling in a gutter cleaning service plan to ensure this protection and peace of mind all year round.

While it may seem like a more affordable option to clean your gutters on your own, the potential risks simply do not outweigh the savings. You risk serious injuries and might not own the proper equipment or experience. You could also damage your gutters, gutter pitch, or the roof and end up paying even more in costly repairs. Hiring a trusted partner like Ned Stevens is beneficial because of the FREE inspections that take place during your cleaning. It might be hard to diagnose issues if you DIY.

Our licensed gutter cleaners have the experience and equipment to get the job done safely and efficiently, so you can rest assured that your gutters will be clean and functioning correctly. In the end, hiring a professional gutter cleaner is the best option for your home.
