Our area has been drenched lately—and we’re not the only ones looking for dry ground.
Cockroaches, especially the American and German varieties common to Southeastern Pennsylvania, have been turning up in kitchens and basements at a higher rate than usual.
Why?
Because the heavy rains are flushing them out of their comfort zones—storm drains, crawlspaces, and sewer systems—right into residential areas.
After this month’s rain and humid weather, Ned’s local pest control teams have seen an uptick in:
- Roaches creeping out of floor drains and basement corners
- Ants trailing across floors in search of food and shelter
- Mice appearing in garages and pantries
- Spiders spinning new homes in quiet corners of the house
This week’s forecast says warm and humid—ideal for insect activity. So, if your home, (like mine) is feeling a little more “alive” than usual, it’s time to act fast.
Here’s how to keep insects out:
- Inspect foundation gaps, vent openings, and sump pump access points
- Dry out moisture-prone zones like laundry rooms and basements
- Clean under appliances—crumbs and condensation attract pests
- Call for a full-home pest inspection before a small problem turns into a major one
When it rains in our area, the roaches rise. Keep them out with proactive prevention and a reliable pest plan. Look at your options here at Ned’s Pest Control an expert division of Ned’s Home.
