Sprucing Up Your Space: The Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most used and beloved parts of the modern day home. We all can attest to spending hours cooking, laughing and confiding in our loved ones between the walls of our kitchens. That’s why keeping it beautiful and welcoming is so important.

Here are a few ways to spruce up your tired kitchen!

Display Fresh Flowers and Fruits

One of the easiest ways to spruce up your kitchen space is adding colorful fresh elements to the counter tops. A basket of red apples would make a beautiful centerpiece for any season. A bouquet of flowers is never a bad idea. Go with flowers of the current season to save on funds. In the spring, line a glass vase with cut lemons and fill with colorful flowers to bring extra brightness to your kitchen.

Change Up the Accessories

A new rug, a few different dish towels and colorful window treatments can be the small touches your kitchen needs to look completely different. Plus, these are small, inexpensive additions you can change throughout the years. You could even change them with the seasons. Don’t stop at rugs and towels. Think of the smaller appliances you could add to your space. A cherry red toaster or a bright yellow mixer are elements that can add to the kitchen. Plus, you can put these items away or move them around whenever you want.

Hang Your Pots and Pans

If you are cramped for space in a small kitchen, try hanging your pots and pans instead of storing them in the cabinet. This can add an extra layer of decor to your space and offer up some much-needed storage space. You can also hang your knives by placing a magnetic strip along the wall. Just be sure it’s out of the reach of curious little hands.

Update the Cabinets

One of the easiest ways to completely change your kitchen is to update your existing cabinets. Plus, it’s also a pretty cheap method. Just buy a refacing kit at your local hardware store, and you’ll have a weekend project. Lighter colors are definitely in right now, like whites and grays, but you could also stain your cabinets a darker color or paint them with bright, bold colors.

Get New Hardware

Those knobs and handles on your cabinets and drawers can make a huge difference if you choose the right ones. Look for colorful, unique options if that is your style. We only warn against getting too personal or cute. That can make your space look less polished, and you could tire of them quickly.

Hang Plates on the Wall

Remember when your mother would hang her decorative plates on the walls? Maybe she was onto something. Take plates of similar colors and varying shapes to display on the wall as an art piece. After all, what better place to show off cute plates?

Add in Wood Elements

From wood islands to shiplap on the walls, wood is a popular choice for homeowners. If it fits with the style of your kitchen, try adding in elements of wood. Just don’t go overboard. It’s an accent.
