How To Spruce Up Your Space During Winter

Once winter’s cold sets in, things can start to feel stagnant. From a fresh coat of paint to a few new candles, these tips will help freshen up your space, mix things up and shake off some of that cold!

Schedule a deep cleaning

Set aside some time to clean your home from top to bottom, or treat yourself and hire a cleaning service. This way, your space will be looking extra spiffy in no time. If you choose to deep clean yourself, this can be a great way to get a good look at every nook and cranny and populate your list of things that need fixing.

Rearrange the furniture

Before you get started, use an online room-planning tool or get out your sketchbook to get the creative juices flowing. Updating your room layouts can free up space in new ways and give your space a new feel.

Bring in the plants

Plants can literally breathe new life into your indoor spaces. Plants can help detoxify the air and even boost your mood. Drop by your local nursery or hardware store and check out the indoor plant selection. If you’ve got indoor pets, make sure that the plant species that you bring home are pet-friendly. A bouquet of fresh flowers is also always a nice touch!

Let the light in

Open up your blinds. Mount a mirror on your wall opposite of a window to light up the room and make it feel bigger.

Update your wall hangings

Now would be a great time to put up those newer family pictures and even get some new art on the wall. This can add a sparkle to the feeling of walking through your home.

Break out the winter accessories

It’s winter, so it’s time for your favorite blankets and throws. Nothing feels better than curling up with a great blanket and your favorite show or favorite book. Get some tea light holders or some new candles and warm your space with firelight.

Install heat saving curtains

Especially in homes with older windows, drafts can be a problem during cold weather. If updating your windows isn’t yet on your agenda, some quality heat saving curtains can help keep heat in and keep your winter utilities down. While you’re at it, replace your old weather stripping and make sure your doors seal in the heat.

Clear the chimney

There’s nothing better than a relaxing time around the fireplace. Make sure your chimney’s free of clogs and your flue is open before you light a fire.

Peace of mind is one of the best holiday gifts you can buy, so spruce up your mind. Knowing that your gutters are in great shape is a great way to close out the year. The gutter cleaning professionals at Ned Stevens are always ready to help!
