Massachusetts

As one of the oldest areas in the country, Massachusetts has played a significant role in American history. From Plymouth Rock to the Boston Cream Pie, this New England state has colored the entire country’s culture in one form or another. Here are a few of our favorite aspects of this great state.

The Food

Massachusetts is known for quite a few food items. Boston Cream Pie, Boston Baked Beans, Clam Chowder. We could go on, but let’s get down to specifics. As the entire eastern side of the state is bordered by the Atlanitc Fish Company , seafood plays a huge role in the local cuisine, New England style. If you are looking for some great grub, mosey on over to the Atlantic Fish Company. Plus, with the brutally cold winters, you’ll want an entire pot of clam chowder. But not the kind with tomatoes. That’s illegal.

As for some tried and true favorites, did you know that Marshmallow Fluff was invented in Somerville in 1917? Yep, you have little ole Massachusetts to thank for that ooey gooey goodness. Also, there’s this donut place that you might have heard of. Dunkin Donuts was established in Quincy in 1950. So next time you stop in for a donut and a cup of joe, you can thank Massachusetts. Will that be glazed or jelly filled?

The Festivals

Oh, how Bostonians love their festivals and large gatherings. From the Boston Marathon, one of five world marathon majors, to the St. Patick's Day Parade, celebrations are abundant in this state. If you are in MA around Independence Day, you can’t miss the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular! It’s phenomenal. Plus, spending this holiday in such a historic place is an experience by itself.

The Landmarks

With the historic past attached to this New England area, you can’t throw a rock without hitting something that has some value. Visit Paul Revere's House or Plymouth Rock , both of which have great stories attached to them. The British were coming, after all.

Looking for a little bit of twisted history? You can stop by The Witch House in Salem where verdicts were cast regarding the supposed witches in town. The owner of the house, Jonathan Corwin, took part in one of the most famous witch hunts in American history.

The Great Outdoors

With paddling, kayaking, camping and zip lining, even the outdoorsy type can have a blast in the bay state. For those with moderate to advanced kayaking skill, a trip into the Atlantic Ocean is perfect. Whale Watch or just enjoy the wave!

Berkshire East was featured as one of the top ten zip lines in the United States. With ½ mile long zips, adrenaline junkies can find just the right thrill here!

The Attractions

Two words. Fenway Park. Everyone in the country knows about Fenway Park. The Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and the New England Patriots, Massachusetts really is the place for a sports fan.

When you think of Massachusetts, your mind probably goes straight to Boston. For good reason, as Boston is famous, from the pie to the sports to the accents. But don’t get caught up in the Boston glory. While beaches might not be the first to mind, Massachusetts has miles of coastline and two gorgeous islands, including Martha's Vineyard.

The Character

Massachusetts is full of character. From the historic to the modern additions, you can find amazing things here. But aside from the history and the food, the most amazing thing about Massachusetts is the people.
