ICE DAMMING

Ice Damming

Ice damming is a common cause of water damage to a home. Ice damming can occur whether your gutters have been cleaned or are dirty. It can also occur if your gutters are new or old. Temperature differential (inside to outside) and improper ventilation or insulation often cause snow to melt and run down to the roof edge where it collects and refreezes. The ice mass then traps water behind it that backs up under shingles and penetrates the home, resulting in interior damage.

One of the quickest ways to stop the flow of water into the home is to remove the gutter. Although it is a drastic measure, it will help alleviate the situation.

Our cost to remove a gutter in an ice dam situation is $495 for the first gutter and $175 for each additional gutter. This price does not include installation of any new gutters.

This is an example of a classic ice dam scenario. Not only is the snow melting from escaping heat but this section of roof is in sunlight also causing the snow to melt.
